GREENVILLE, S.C. (December 2005) - Span-America Medical Systems, Inc. announces the launch of an air therapy mattress that it calls the most safety conscious support surface in the industry.

The new PressureGuard® APM² "Safety Supreme" has been designed to address all of the most pressing safety issues relative to support surfaces: fall prevention, entrapment prevention, fire safety, and skin integrity.

The "Safety Supreme" is based on the company's patented PressureGuard design, featuring air support cylinders inside an engineered foam shell. It offers caregivers the option of alternating pressure or lateral rotation at the flip of a built-in toggle switch.

To help prevent falls and entrapment, the mattress incorporates the patented, raised perimeter design found in the company's popular Geo-Mattress with Wings®. This raised perimeter is lined from edge to edge with the clinically proven Geo-Matt® segmented surface for extra protection from shearing. The system is also outfitted with an inner fire barrier for maximum flammability protection.
