SPAN-AMERICA DECLARES REGULAR QUARTERLY DIVIDEND

Stockholders Elect Directors at Annual Meeting

GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 13, 2009) -- Span-America Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPAN) announced today that the Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.09 per share.  The dividend is payable March 5, 2009, to shareholders of record on February 23, 2009.  The Company also reported that shareholders elected three directors at its annual shareholders’ meeting. 

"This dividend marks our 77th consecutive quarter of paying cash dividends,” stated Jim Ferguson, president and chief executive officer of Span‑America.  “It also represents a 12.5% increase in our cash dividend from the $0.08 per share paid at this time last year.  Span-America has returned $19.7 million to shareholders over the past ten years through our dividend program.  Our Board remains focused on building long-term shareholder value and believes our consistent dividend payments highlight this strategy.”

Span-America also announced that shareholders elected three directors for terms expiring in 2012:

Guy R. Guarch                         Retired Regional Vice President – C.R. Bard, Inc.
Thomas D. Henrion                President and owner – Silver Thread Farms, LLC
Linda D. Norman                   Senior Associate Dean for Academics – Vanderbilt University School of Nursing
