Advocat Receives Five National Quality Awards
From American Healthcare Association

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - (September 22, 2005) - Advocat Inc. (NASDAQ OTC: AVCA) today announced that five of its long-term care facilities were recognized with National Quality Awards by the American Healthcare Association (AHCA). 

“We had five facilities recognized with Step I awards by the American Healthcare Association,” stated William R. Council, III, Chief Executive Officer of Advocat. “Eligibility for these national awards includes at least a three-year history of excellence in quality care, staff and residents’ satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. We had four facilities recognized by AHCA last year and the addition of these five awards in 2005 highlights our continued commitment to providing quality healthcare for our residents.”

Advocat’s award winning facilities included:

Ash Flat Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Ash Flat, Arkansas
Des Arc Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Des Arc, Arkansas
Cedar Hills Healthcare Center – Jacksonville, Florida
Golfcrest Healthcare Center – Hollywood, Florida
Golfview Healthcare Center – St. Petersburg, Florida

Mr. Council added, “We had the only two facilities in the state of Arkansas to receive an AHCA award and had three of the ten awards made in Florida this year. These facilities are a credit to Advocat and to the long-term care profession. I am very proud of the employees of these facilities for creating an environment that fosters quality performance.”

The AHCA awards are based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria and have three levels of awards for nursing homes. Step I awards are the first recognition level in the process.
